7.9 Billion user records part of data breaches in 2019. Can blockchain based identity be a solution?
As fines on Facebook rack up and privacy regulations globally amplify, we'll see incredible development in the consumer privacy sector. More and more people are waking up to the value of their data and the rampant data breaches leading to personal, private data and online identity being sold on the dark web. You can check if you've been part of any known breaches at haveibeenpwned.com.
That stat has me concerned. I believe the blame falls in two main areas. First, passwords are an extremely weak line of defense. Thankfully Microsoft and others are working on passwordless verifications online. Secondly, there's a goldmine of data sitting in central silos... and unfortunately the market shows we suck at protecting it even with 2FA and other solutions being out there.
That’s why I have deep interest in blockchain based identity, which give you and only you the keys to your data and identity. We get to decide what happens with it. I made an intro-level overview to the matter of data breaches and blockchain based identity in a vid I made on YouTube if you'd like to take a look.
What do you guys think about the state of identity and your data online? Has anyone here explored blockchain-based identity?
