What if Android benchmarks/reviews started using these metrics to compare devices (beyond just the camera pixels, CPU) - this could be an alternative to Google-enforced hardware certification (which has been weak). Google could then continue to focus on seasonal Material Design tweak diktat (like the fashion industry), and leave manufacturer pressure to benchmarks/reviewers : Audio Latency - usability for real-time performance (drum-kits, cosplay) - half of Oreo 8.0 devices crash with new low latency audio introduced in Oreo 8.0 due to a bug that was fixed later - caught by some manufacturers, not by others (including Samsung). Comments in the Chromium Gerrit point to older Chromebooks not getting Android P. Those Chromebooks feature kernel 3.14 or older and include 2015’s Google Chromebook Pixel. According to comments on a Chromium Code review that XDA Developers spotted, 2015’s Google Chromebook Pixel or any similarly older Chrome OS device will not get Android P . Keep in mind that this is not Android P support in the sense that Chromebooks will run a full version of Android . Rather, Android P would be used as the underpinnings for when you download apps from the Play Store, for example. Tmobile announces support for RCS UP 1.0...but for it to work right they need 2.0
They said they are rolling out "Version 1.0" That was literally introduced years ago. Last year version 2.0 was introduced brought alot of improvements, and among them was network interoperability. So literally, they just improved the RCS between tmobile customers which they were already using. Even when they roll out to more customers, Tmobile wont bebale to talk to other RCS ppl outside of Tmobile until they upgrade to version 2.0. I have no idea why they would launch 1.0 when the current version is 2.2. One thing to consider is Tmobile is using the Samsung hub instead of Googles own. Research has found Android Auto to be less distracting than native infotainment systems. In testing, users were able to perform tasks quicker when using Android Auto. However, Android Auto can still create unsafe distraction levels. Google’s vehicle infotainment system Android Auto is less distracting to drivers than built-in infotainment systems, according to research from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety . The research found that drivers are able to make calls 24 percent faster and program navigation 31 percent faster on average when using Android Auto or Apple’s CarPlay. The ability to perform tasks quickly is crucial for the safe use of infotainment systems. The AAA says that drivers who take their eyes off the road for more than two seconds are at double the risk of a crash. Distracted driving causes 390,000 injuries and 3,500 deaths every year, according to the AAA. The results were reached after researchers compared the visual and mental demand placed on drivers

Huawei announced it will launch a gaming-centric smartphone by the end of 2018. The company also confirmed it will launch a foldable smartphone in 2019. Huawei would face stiff competition from Razer, Asus, and Samsung. With gaming phones already a reality and foldable phones getting closer than ever before, Huawei announced it wants to be part of both conversations with its own gaming and foldable phones. According to GadgetMatch , Huawei consumer business president Jim Xu confirmed that the company will launch a gaming-centric smartphone in the second half of 2018. An Android developer posted screenshots of a Material redesign of the Google Home app. The biggest changes are the addition of a bottom menu bar, and a total revamp of the devices page. We don’t know when this redesign will roll out to everyone. The Google Home app has gone through a lot of transformations over the years. It was originally the Google Cast app which itself was originally the Chromecast app. Now, it looks like a redesign with Material Design elements is coming to Google Home.
