Snag a peek at the sleek Honor Magic 2 in white ahead of today’s launch

Image
A white Honor Magic 2 is in the works, according to pictures uploaded to China’s TENAA website. The images also give us a better look at the slider phone’s design. The device is set to pack a triple-camera setup on the rear, along with multiple cameras on the front. The Honor Magic 2 is the latest slider flagship of 2018, and the Huawei sub-brand has already given us a good look at the device. Now, ahead of the phone’s launch later today, we’ve received a close look at a new variant. We already know blue and red Honor Magic 2 variants are coming, but China’s TENAA authority has now uploaded images of a white model. It doesn’t seem like a gradient color, as is the case with the blue and red models, but Huawei has dabbled with a white/yellow/pink gradient before. The images also show the back of the device when the slider is popped out, revealing a smooth black surface, as you’d expect. TENAA We get a side view of the Honor Magic 2 too, and it doesn’t seem substantially

The 5 biggest things to happen to smartphones since the Nexus 5

Image
Five years ago today, Google and LG partnered to release one of the most cherished Android smartphones ever: the  Nexus 5 . Though not necessarily the best looking or the most popular handset, the Nexus 5 nonetheless captured something special. Despite its oft-discussed flaws, this smartphone stole the hearts of many Android fans (indeed, created many fans) and is still used as a reference device even today . On its birthday week, I’ve been thinking about how much it achieved, and how far smartphones have really come since its release at the end of 2013. Here are some of the biggest changes we’ve seen in the intervening years. The Nexus 5 in its stormtrooper color scheme. Camera technology One of the easiest ways to tell if someone is using an old phone, even without seeing the handset, is through the photos it takes. Smartphone camera tech has dramatically transformed in the last five years, from the noise and bugs of the Nexus 5 era (you can find some sample photos of its c

Xiaomi hijacks OnePlus 6T launch with calculator giveaway: guess why

Image
Xiaomi reportedly gave out calculators to people at the OnePlus 6T launch in India yesterday. This allowed those at the event to work out how much cheaper the Pocophone F1 is. As usual with this type of campaign, it ignored a lot of important details. Xiaomi reportedly got up to a bit of mischief at the OnePlus 6T launch event in India yesterday. According to a post on Reddit , the company gave away calculators in boxes branded with the phrase “You Do The Math” to people attending the event. A quick look at the Poco India Twitter account  explains the stunt relates to the fact the Xiaomi made  Pocophone F1 has the same Snapdragon 845 processor as the OnePlus 6T, but is significantly cheaper. The price of the phones in India is 20,999 rupee (~$283.83) for the Pocophone F1 and 37,999 (~ $513) rupee for the OnePlus 6T, according to Poco India. Never Settle for OverPriced. Google Pixel 3 camera APK test. Essential Phone low light selfie performance

Hey folks (sorry in advance for the rather serious looking selfies) I wanted to test how well the Google Pixel 3 port of G Cam worked on my Essential Ph-1. A phone we can all agree was a bit of a lemon, especially in the camera department. Seeing how Google's Pixel 3 images were looking pretty impressive I was excited to get my hands on Night Sight and see if it could help alleviate any of the phones continuous problems. So I set up a bit of a test. The environment : A closed room with only 3 Philips Hue light bulbs (gen 3) as the light source, each set to 45% brightness with the colors red (#ff0000) ,blue (#0400ff), and purple (#4a00b2). Philips Hue bulbs can produce a max of 800 lumens at pure white. However I cannot say what they produce at these colors. This somewhat simulates a photo within a darker bar or parts of a night club. The phones: Only front facing cameras were used. As well to keep things on equal footing I used three 2017 devices, a Sony Xperia XZ Premium, Sa

2 days away and spotify still haven't updated to API 26

From November 1. All apks submitted to the play store most Target API 26. Spotify has been notorious for neglecting the Android app and I'm interested to see if they manage to finally update it. It's the only major app on my device to to not update at this point and the only app on API 23. Even the trash apps like my bank have updated. I forsee them pulling a Spotify and just stop updating the app for the next few months until they realize what is going on lol Submitted October 30, 2018 at 12:01PM by Maultaschenman https://ift.tt/2Sx2Tsr https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Headphone jacks are cool and all, but how important are notification LEDs for you?

The OnePlus 6T was announced yesterday, and it now lacks a notification LED. The Pixel 3 also lacks it. For me, personally, the notification LED is more important than a headphone jack. The ability to glance at your phone and know whether or not you have a notification, and also to know what type of notification it is, is incredibly useful. Do you feel that a notification LED is important for your next phone purchase? Is it a dealbreaker for you? YouTube PIP bug on Android Pie appears to be fixed

I've not gotten an app update for YouTube recently however the navigation bar being stuck in full screen after going from PIP mode appears to be fixed. I've tried multiple times and haven't been able to recreate it now compared to it happening every single time beforehand. It took Google long enough to fix this.... But glad it's been solved for me at least. Submitted October 30, 2018 at 03:51PM by lazzzym https://ift.tt/2Swonpp https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

New camera sensors

https://www.engadget.com/2018/10/30/samsung-48-megapixel-isocell-camera-sensor/ It’ll be interesting to see how these new designs like the imx586 and huawei’s 40mp sensor play out. I’d like to see what someone other than huawei can do because I think the general consensus is huawei’s processing is the biggest issue with the P20 Pro’s camera. I’m eagerly waiting for something to use sony’s Imx586 but if Samsung beats it to market with these in the s10 I may buy my first Samsung. OnePlus 6T has already received its first update, a day after launch

Image
The OnePlus 6T has received its first update, a short while after its reveal. OxygenOS 9.0.4 tweaks the Nightscape mode and adds a studio lighting option. The update also improves Screen Unlock and brings the November 2018 security patch. The OnePlus 6T was finally launched this week, delivering several improvements over the OnePlus 6 . The Chinese brand isn’t wasting any time though, as it quickly pushed out a system update yesterday. The Oxygen OS 9.0.4 update, spotted by HDBlog (h/t: XDA ), weighs in at 137MB. It’s a pretty small update at first glance, but it brings quite a few tweaks nonetheless. Read: The #phonepocalypse is over, here are the highlights from October launches For one, the update improves the camera app’s Nightscape mode, while also adding a “studio lighting” option (presumably for portrait mode). Other noteworthy tweaks include improved Screen Unlock (OnePlus’s term for in-display fingerprint scanning), better standby power consumption, and general
