Best phones with 8GB of RAM — what are your current options?

Image
It wasn’t that long ago that 8GB of RAM was considered a pretty sizeable capacity, even for a computer. Now, phones with 8GB of RAM are a thing – in fact, phones are even starting to offer 10GB of RAM ! While that’s arguably an overkill, more RAM is never a bad thing, especially if you plan to keep your handset for several years. More RAM doesn’t necessarily mean you’re totally future proof, but it certainly helps. If you’re in the market for a phone with 8GB of RAM, you’ll be happy to hear there are already quite a few of them to choose from — check out the five best ones below. Samsung Galaxy Note 9 The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 was announced in August and is currently one of the best smartphones you can get your hands on. We here at Android Authority named it the smartphone of the year . It comes with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, although a version with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is also available. Head of R&D at Essential: ‘We aren’t done, not by a long shot’

Image
The Essential Phone is out of stock and that stock will no longer be replenished. This news led many to believe that the company as a whole is going down in flames. However, Essential’s head of research and development tweeted that the company isn’t done, “not by a long shot.” Late last week, we found out  the Essential Phone’s stock had run dry and would not be replenished. Many news publications took that information and ran with it, posting headlines such as “The Essential Phone is dead,” and “RIP Essential Phone.” After reading headlines like those, one might jump to the conclusion that Essential itself is dying as well. However, Jason Keats — the head of research and development at Essential — would beg to differ. Shortly after the headlines began making their way across the ‘net, Keats took to Twitter to dispel the rumors: All these stories about Essential’s demise just end up feeding my desire to rub their faces in it in the future. We aren’t done, not by a long sh

Workaround for Android Pie Ringer Volume Control using Macrodroid

How it looks We all know how obnoxious the change made on the Volume Controls in Android Pie is. This workaround lets you change ringer volume without going into the settings using Macrodroid. This is activated by holding down the volume button for one second and then pressing either volume button again to show the settings. The ringer slider appears beside the media slider when the volume is adjusted while a notification sound is playing. The macro takes advantage of this by playing a a blank notification sound, which is activated by holding down the down volume button, and then pressing the either of volume buttons again to adjust the ringer volume and show the overlay slider. Drawbacks include not being able to just hold down the volume button to mute sounds (you now have to spam it) and android ducking (the lowering of media volume when a notification sound plays) You can copy the macro from the image below or import the files to macrodroiddownloaded from the gdrive folder bel

How to uninstall Facebook (even if your phone won't let you)

Usually, when Facebook is pre-installed on a phone, the OEM makes it that you cannot uninstall it conventionally or without root. I've written a cmd script (Linux version coming soon, and I don't have a Mac) that uninstalls the following apps from your phone: Facebook Facebook App Manager Facebook App Installer Messenger Note that how this script uninstalls is that it uninstalls from the user 0 (which is you), it does not uninstall the app completely . System apps can't be uninstalled completely without root. If you do a factory reset, all of these apps will reinstall themselves. Make sure USB debugging is enabled on your phone. Here is a zip file containing the adb files and the script: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AmWVPYZ6L-72iWV3RAktcdSXB9xS Extract everything and run deletus.bat . 5G is almost here – here’s what you can expect from Verizon

Image
Verizon began its preparations for 5G years ago by densifying its 4G LTE network using small cell sites in highly-populated areas. The company’s current fiber-based network — a huge web consisting of 900,000 global fiber route miles as of August 2018  — will deliver data to Verizon’s millimeter ( mmWave ) 5G small cell sites scattered across the nation. In rural areas, Version will install fiber cable in 1,000-foot intervals . Overall, Verizon’s 5G rollout plan is the exact opposite of T-Mobile: Sell a fixed in-home 5G-based service first and launch a mobile 5G service sometime thereafter. T-Mobile is focusing on nationwide 5G coverage using long-range LTE Band 71 and two other short-range mmWave bands first, followed by an in-home service at a later date. Related: AT&T 5G Sprint 5G T-Mobile 5G While T-Mobile’s 5G service is based on industry standards approved by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project  conglomerate (3GPP), Verizon is initially using its proprietary-yet-

Foldable phones with flexible displays – Here are the ones we know about so far

Image
Phones with true flexible and foldable displays  are on the way! After a brief flirtation with phones like  ZTE Axon M , which joins two screens with a hinge in a clamshell design, we’re already seeing companies tease their products. One smaller company has even started taking orders, saying it will begin shipping in late December 2018. In 2019, we expect some of the biggest smartphone makers to launch their own foldable phones. It could be a major change in the industry. Let’s take a look at the upcoming foldable phone devices with flexible displays we’ve heard about so far.  Editor’s note:  We will be updating this list of foldable phones as more devices hit the market and more information is revealed. Royole FlexPai It turns out the first true foldable phone will probably come from a company few have heard of, even though it’s been developing flexible display technology for many years. The China-based Royole surprised the industry in late October by announcing it would rele

What phone are you most looking forward to in 2019? (Poll of the Week)

Image
Last week’s poll summary: Last week, we asked you to vote for the biggest blunder that took place in 2018. Out of almost 2,000 total votes , about 30 percent of voters said Facebook’s tone-deaf response to everyone’s privacy concerns was the biggest blunder of the year. Red’s underwhelming Hydrogen One came in at a close second with 25 percent of the votes, while Huawei’s troubles with the U.S. came in third with 13 percent of the votes. We already know 2018 was a great year for Android phones , but now it’s time to look ahead at all the devices we’re expecting in the year to come. I’m going to keep this one short and sweet — you already know the standout smartphones that launched this year, so you probably have a good idea of what we’re looking forward to most. But we want to hear from you — what phone are you most looking forward to in 2019? Samsung’s Galaxy S10 , the OnePlus 7 , or something else? Cast your vote in the poll and feel free to leave a comment if there’s any
