After 30 days of use, my Pixel 2 XL is officially dead. Here I come, Samsung!

These are the issues I've had, in order: Screen is dull, with washed out colors. Multiple apps crash daily. Camera has close range focusing issues. Significant screen burn-in. Screen's max brightness is variable, regardless of settings. 3.5mm adapter dongle stops working. Fingerprint reader stops working half of the time. Screen occasionally flashes different colors or shows ghost images on a white screen. Phone shuts down when charging. Phone is unable to charge. All software updates were installed as they became available to me (T-Mobile). A factory reset resolved nothing. And Google won't refund me. :( Submitted November 30, 2017 at 04:29PM by Togna-Bologna http://ift.tt/2jyZj0p http://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Spiritual successor to the Nokia E7 a landscape qwerty Android Nokia.🤞🏼 what are your thoughts

I'd really like to see a new version of the Nokia E7 a spiritual successor to this very cool device. I recall seeing a prototype device that was going to join the Lumia line. This never happened but i still have big hopes for this coming back. I noticed the build quality dropped hard when Nokia officially left production with Microsoft so i know they took build techniques and patents with them. Anyone else keen on this full qwerty landscape design like the E7 now Nokia are rocking Android Let me (and Nokia) know Submitted November 30, 2017 at 01:31AM by Davga-Lacra http://ift.tt/2kbSXZ0 http://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Why doesn't Corning (Gorilla glass manufacturers) make screen protectors?

I own and S7 edge and most screen protectors suck cause of the curve. Corning has the EXACT specs for every single phone with gorilla glass on it. There wouldn't be any issues in getting fitting right. Always deemed weird that they don't just sell them. why don't they have a line of screen protectors that have absolute perfect fits to the screen? Did Google ever test the FAB concept?

Is FAB (Floating Action Button) just a gimmick? I don't think it's very good UX-wise because it's located in the part of the screen where you would expect content. It may be good if you're using bottom nav, but can't think of any other good reason for having the primary action button far away from the navigation. When using Android apps, I NEVER notice the floating action button. Submitted November 29, 2017 at 09:51AM by shvelo http://ift.tt/2hZQr3F http://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Moto Z Play + Turbo Power mod, thoughts

Okay, well I am on my third Z Play now. (one I ruined, one I sold) I still think this is the most reliable phone I ever had, I have a Turbo Power Mod with it and you will forever be spoiled on batterylife. I can not remember the last time I reached below 50% battery, truly. The connections are all fine, wifi, network speed etc are all absolutely great. The design is not for everyone, large bezels may scare some people off, but it does allow for the FPS to be on the front at least. It's about 7 mm thin/thick, which is great in my opinion, I can't imagine how the first gen regular Moto Z looked with it's 5,2mm yet I am impressed by it. My use case is having a pretty bright screen on (except when in bed in the dark), wifi or 4g on at all times, often play on Drastic emulator, browse a lot, chat a lot. Now on the issue of typing, the haptic feedback is fantastic (I set it to relatively mid-high vibrations via Swiftkey) The battery.... I barely even track it anymore, I k

Why is Android not pushing a standalone emoji update rather than waiting for whole OS update?

What I mean here is an outdated version of emoji on older version of Android. We know that Android only support 2 or 3 years of OS upgrade, unlike the iPhone which is 5 years and those iPhone able to get the latest version of emoji. Since emoji is everywhere and it's kind of annoying to see empty boxes everywhere. Submitted November 29, 2017 at 11:30AM by Happyfever http://ift.tt/2imGqBf http://ift.tt/eA8V8J

ACTUAL NET NEUTRALITY DOCUMENTS

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J I feel like almost everyone is losing their shit over the upcoming Net Neutrality ruling without actually knowing what the fuck is going on. Why isn't a password required to shut down the phone? It would aid in tracking stolen phones.

Thought of this today when my buddy's phone got stolen. Most of us don't turn our phones off all that often, so it wouldn't be a big inconvenience. But on the plus side, it would prevent thieves from powering down the phone to prevent tracking. It wouldn't impact the long-press-to-hard-reset feature, as that just power cycles the phone and it comes back on again. This seems like a no-brainer to me. If this were added, the only workaround thieves would have is to put the phone in recovery mode, but most don't know how to do this and I imagine a large percentage of opportunistic thieves would never learn to do so. I think it would increase the likelihood that your phone remains trackable when it's stolen. Submitted November 29, 2017 at 01:34AM by kojaengi http://ift.tt/2AjAYWI http://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Possible solution to missing messages in the Android Messages app

tl;dr: Remove hyphens and weird formats from phone numbers in contacts list using Google's Contacts app from the play store.    Many users of Google's Android Messages app were receiving, but not able to view some messages in the app when the 2.3.265 update was released in July. The problem has been fixed, but some users like me still experienced missing texts. Due to some sheer luck, I think I figured out what the issue is. Different contact apps that come with different phones store numbers in different ways. If Android Messages doesn't like the format the number is saved in, it won't show texts received from that number. For example, I have some numbers in my contacts list that are not people. A five digit number (like 54732) send notifications whenever my debit card is used. 22000 is used as the Google Authenticator. When I saved these numbers using Samsung's built in contacts app on my S7, they saved in the format ###-## (So 220-00 for the Google Authenticat

PSA: If you're suffering from Android Play Services battery drain after the last update install the beta

My V20 has been suffering greatly from massive battery drain since the the last update. I've tried: Draining the battery completely and charging back to 100% Uninstalling/re-installing the GPS update Clearing the cache and data of GPS Deleting recently installed apps Replacing the battery Replacing the charger Nothing worked. I've been googling and it seems to be a common issues especially with Pixel and Oneplus owners. I've finally solved the issue by installing the version 11.9.49 Beta of GPS. Please take your time to figure out which version you're suppose to install. I just wanted share since I guess I can't be the only one! Hope this helps someone! Discussion: You should be able to set different Assistant wakeup phrases so you can choose whether to wake your watch, phone, tablet, or smart speaker

...or whatever other devices they might add voice to. It could be totally optional, and/or still behave as it does now if you just say "Okay Google". Yes, my phone will eventually go "Answering on another device", but that's sometimes annoying because it interrupts what my phone was doing, or I want my phone or watch to answer - for example, wetting a timer on the Home is no good because I can't just glance at my wrist and see it. The steps to manually invoke Google Assistant on my phone are: Pick up phone Hard press the home button area\lock button Swipe my security pattern (No chance of reaching the fingerprint sensor on the Note 8, nor does it work anyway) Swipe up to show the nav buttons Hold down the home button Whereas the steps to activate Okay Google are: Just say 'Okay Google'. I like "Okay Google". It's a good feature. But if I want to use it on my watch, my phone and Home Mini both go off, and then

Can you clean the sticky side of a screen protector?

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J Hey there, So, I have a question regarding my screen protector. I was trying to get the bubbles out since they're pretty annoying and I notice the adhesive or sticky side of the screen protector is dirty. I do something really stupid, lick my fingers and try to get the specs of dust and bits off, only making it worse, smudging it. Now I'm really worried if I do anything else, it'll only get worse and break upon contact. I'm not sure what to do, any ideas? Video example how Android Malware can be spread through Google Play and how you can remove it.

Yesterday, I found two banking Trojans on Google Play store, fortunately they were promptly removed by Google security team. However, this situation can repeat in the future, so I decided to create video for Android users out there how to spot weird app functionality and what they should do next. You can safely observe how this banking Trojan works + how to remove it: https://youtu.be/O-MhwByGbFw Submitted November 28, 2017 at 07:43AM by lukasstefanko http://ift.tt/2hXFBLe http://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Using large (5.55"+) screen phones one handed

Let me try to give you my perspective about how I have made using my phone (Xiaomi Mi A1) as one handed as possible. I have average size hands, not too big at all. I am using Nova prime launcher. Changed the home screen grid to 7x7 and also dock size to 7 icons. This allows me to stack 2 more apps in dock. I keep folders for my most used apps (Google apps, utilities, transport, social etc) on the bottom right side. I am right handed so all of these are accessible just by right thumb. I have also removed the icon of app list from dock and replaced it with a gesture which means that you have 7 app icons on dock as opposed to only 4 in by default dock. I am using gestures to navigate on home screen. One of the biggest issue in using a large screen one handed is accessing notifications and settings. Slide up on home screen brings notifications. Slide down brings detailed settings. There are other gestures as well but these are 2 main. App drawer grid is set to 7x7 as opposed to defa

[Rumor] There will be too variants of the LG G7: the LCD version with Snapdragon 835 and the OLED version with Snapdragon 845

According to a South Korean forum (link here: http://ift.tt/2zLyYHg ), the LG G7 will come in too variants: the LCD version with Snapdragon 835 and the OLED version with Snapdragon 845.   The LCD model is being developed with the Snapdragon 835, and the OLED model is under development with the Snapdragon 845. It seems to be a choice based on the 845 supply shortage and LG OLED supply and demand. It is said that LG OLED yield is only 15 ~ 20% at present.   OLED models and LCD models are likely to be released in North America. The 3.5mm headphone jack is included. Browsers are ridiculously fast! (Without JavaScript.)

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J I'm sure this isn't really news, but I had no idea how bad it had gotten. This page , without adblock, takes some 30 seconds of video playback, janky scrolling, interstitials, and just loading garbage before you can actually read the content. One weird trick: Turn off JavaScript. Just on that site. (In Chrome: Click the "Not Secure" (or "Secure" on better sites) next to the URL, change JavaScript to "always block on this page", then reload.) Flash should already be blocked by default. The page now loads in under a second. Completely -- I mean, the comments don't work, but that might even be a plus here. Is that site a fluke? Well, that one is especially bad, but this one took 10-15 seconds to become useful, and it's actually pretty light on ads. Disabled JS, it loads in about exactly one second. Washington Post goes from 5 seconds to load their paywall to half a second to load the whole article, skipping the paywa

NVG of the Week: Cards Against Humanity

Image
It's the week of Thanksgiving (except for Canada) and what better Non Video Game to discuss than the one you can use to make sure your uptight relatives you secretly hate never want to see you ever again, Cards Against Humanity. It's probably the most ubiquitous "mature" card game in the world, presenting opportunities to show how almost everyone (including your saint of a grandmother) appreciates dark humor. Here's how the game works, in case you don't know:One person places a black card that serves as a prompt, either asking a question or presenting a fill in the blank opportunity.Example prompt:The only thing we have to fear is __________.Then, everyone else plays a white card (or cards if there are multiple blanks to fill in) that satisfies the prompt in a manner which they think will be chosen as the best (determined by the person who played the black card). Our black card was "The only thing we have to fear is ___________"Example responses:a litt

Gboard no longer respects personal dictionary shortcuts?

So I've had a personal dictionary for years now and Google continues to restore this for each new phone I get. I had always found this to be very useful because within the personal dictionary, I had created a few shortcuts. So for example, typing two letters would auto-suggest my whole email address. Or typing "ie" would auto-suggest i.e. However, none of these shortcuts seem to work anymore. Maybe Google has replaced the use of shortcuts with machine learning instead? I'm not sure — and while the keyboard is fantastic and does have very good auto-suggest and auto-correct, the lack of shortcuts use is really annoying because especially with longer things (like my email address), it was incredibly useful to be able to type two letters to get this. Now it doesn't work. Anyone else a user of shortcuts via the personal dictionary and seeing the same thing? Maybe there's a setting I have to re-enable? I'm curious what others have experienced. RAW support for Xperia Devices

Hey there, its me again, and its been 2 years and there is still no RAW support on Sony devices, even on Oreo. I would like to raise this matter by telling Sony to just support RAW photos, and this will only be possible by sending them emails addressing the issue, please go here or to your local Sony contact site and send them emails. If anyone can set up a petition, that's well and fine, but it doesn't work . Apart from that, Sony provides really a really nice and smooth stock android experience with minimal bloatware and extreme customisability and I love their design. But for the love of gawd, please enable RAW support already. With RAW, we would be able to compensate for the shitty(not on the XZ and above series) algorithms used by Sony for their cameras and use the Google Pixel Camera's HDR+ version. So please folks at r/android , help us Sony users make this thing visible to Sony. And watch this amazing video by u/yograut on his Xperia XZ1 which demonstrates th

Hello r/Android , Would you like to get promo codes for new (or established) apps/games to your inbox? If yes, take a look at Promies . It's a mailing list that sents at most 1 email per week. Developers want to distribute their promo codes easily. Users want to try apps for free. This mailing list benefits with the least possible effort both of these groups.
