Samsung's stubbornness with 4GB of storage for its wearables

With Samsung offering a phone with half a terabyte, it is frustrating to see the company continue to play cheapskate with its wearable devices. Galaxy Gear (2013): 4gb Gear S (2014): 4gb Gear S2 (2015): 4gb Gear S3 (2016): 4gb Gear Sport (2017): 4gb Gear IconX 2018 (2017): 4gb Galaxy Watch (2018): 4gb Considering apps, software updates and offline music downloads, 4 gigabytes of storage is bread crumbs at best. Samsung has not upgraded the storage for its watches for FIVE years now. In comparison, the base Galaxy Note 9 has quadruple the storage of the Galaxy Note 3 from 2013. Come on Sammy, step your game up. Edit: I run a lot, and all my music is stored offline. Another thing to note is advertised storage vs actually available storage. My Gear S2 only has 2.2gb free even after a factory reset. Submitted September 29, 2018 at 05:08PM by Koresung https://ift.tt/2Rdt9r8 https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Removable batteries discussion

I have always preferred phones with removable batteries so far, thinking that it will most certainly be the first component in a device to fail. I have even advised people in my circles to do so, until a recent event. A family member of mine still uses a HTC DesireX. Recently, he wanted to replace his battery because of swelling. He bought two matching batteries from different sellers. The problem is, even though they were unopened/sealed packages of original batteries, they were not holding much charge. (I suppose they waited on a shelf for some time.) This made me question myself. In the past, I have used nokia smartphones, and they were easy to replace with fresh batteries, since almost all nokias used the same battery type. Now with android, its all over the place. Is it even worth it to go for a removable battery device when you cant find a replacement a couple of years after you purchase it? What do you think/prefer? PS. I realize this is not exactly fault of android OS, but

Give me a hand with my dodgy Android Russian Spy phone.

Hey Everyone! I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, If not, please direct me where to go. So I arrived in Australia and needed a phone, I brought a $50 android off FB marketplace because that's all I could afford. It went well, but after a couple of weeks it was suddenly riddled with spyware/adware. I did a factory reset and all seemed well, a few days later once again a whole bunch of suspicious apps were installed on it. When I try to Download secure apps like my Banking app and Uber, my bank account was insta-Frozen and Uber Auto-banned me. these are some of the dodgy apps I find on it: clock: 1.36mb, 4.44mb data usage in an hour, Looks like the clock app, but it isnt. com.android.contacts: 100kb, uses 1mb per hour it's installed. Why a push for The Notch when everything could be in the bottom bezel?

I fell like title says all but I'm just curious what everyone thinks about why the push for a notch in the top of the screen vs everything (minus speaker) in the chin like I believe Xiamoi once tried. I personally hate the notch and rarely use the front-facing camera so I would happily end the debate which such a solution. Thoughts? Poco F1 is NOT unbrickable due to EDL mode being protected

Before I got started on hacking the Poco (e.g. custom splash graphics, maybe repartition for dualboot, who knows what else) I wanted to port-over my Low-level Backup/Restore kit from Mi A1. To my disappointment I have discovered that the EDL mode on the Poco is protected by some proprietary Xiaomi authorization. This is the same problem encountered as those many who have bricked over anti-rollback protection in other devices - they cannot get authorization. So, in summary - EDL flashing is not possible as Xiaomi have locked it to authorized machines only. Avoid messing around with non-standard-Android partitions at all costs. Source - https://forum.xda-developers.com/poco-f1/how-to/psa-poco-unbrickable-due-to-edl-mode-t3841006 There's a poll conducted on this issue whether they should disable edl checks completely in PocoPhone or not..and majority voted for yes. 15 best puzzle games for Android

Image
Puzzle games used to be a simple genre with a simple idea. You solve puzzles for time killing enjoyment. However, the genre ballooned in a big way on mobile. In fact, it’s one of the most popular genres on the entire platform. It started with simple viral games like 2048 and evolved into genuinely enjoyable experiences like Monument Valley and Telltale Games titles ( until they went under ). These days, you can find some seriously good puzzle games on Android. Gone are the days of super simple mechanics and graphics with goofy ideas. Some of these games are actually fairly intense and complex with stories and even really good graphics. This list changes almost entirely every year and 2018 was no different. Best Buy sold someone a third-gen Chromecast before its announcement

Image
Best Buy accidentally sold a customer an unannounced third-generation Chromecast. The current Chromecast was released over three years ago. This Chromecast is likely the model that passed through the FCC last month. After an updated Chromecast with the inclusion of Bluetooth and likely better Wi-Fi reception passed through the FCC last month, it became clear that we’d probably see updated hardware at Google’s October 9 event . Well, the wait is over because Best Buy accidentally sold the third-gen streaming device to a customer before it was even announced. As you can see from the image below, someone on Reddit was able to walk into their local Best Buy and buy the new device. When they were being checked out, the cashier wasn’t able to ring up the Chromecast initially because the store’s system said it wasn’t to be sold until October 9. The employee bypassed the warning and sold it using the outgoing device’s SKU because both devices were listed for $35. Reddit The prod

We asked, you told us: Your vote for smartphone color isn’t a color at all

Image
If you’ve ever had a color preference for your smartphone, chances are you were forced to grab a phone case to express your style. While the ubiquitous black and white hue options (not colors!) will always dominate what we get from smartphone makers, we are starting to see more colors and styles. And we aren’t talking about “midnight” vs “titanium” black either. With glass backs increasingly popular, we’re seeing a whole new trend of fancy color shimmers and light bending effects. I had a great time recently playing with HTC’s shimmering gradients in their U12 Plus range, particularly the flame red style (although translucent blue was the clear favorite for me, if you can call that a color). Huawei and Honor are all about gradient colors in their latest releases, with the P20 Pro’s twilight gradient catching the eye of many fans. It’s happening in flagships for sure, but even the lower end of the market is seeing more variety, including even the polycarbonate  Oppo Realme 2 . With

You could earn up to $121k per year as a C# developer

Image
Are you ready to start your C# coding odyssey and earn big bucks as a software developer? You’ve picked the right day for it. C# is a programming language often overlooked by first-time coders . There are some great reasons to give it a try, and not just because of the huge price drop on the Complete C# Coding Bootcamp right now. C# (pronounced ‘C sharp’) is similar to C, but it’s generally considered to be  easier to learn . That’s one reason why Microsoft developed it.  Take C, update it to make it more powerful, simplify the code, and you’ve got C# .  C# developers earn $55k to $121k per year. (Source: Gooroo.io) One of the main reasons to learn C# is the number of toolsets and frameworks that support the language, all of which are backed by Microsoft. For example, most developers agree that Visual Studio is one of the most feature rich and powerful development environments on the market. C# gives you prospects too. It has mainstream adoption on the Microsoft an

It’s now in pre-registration on Google Play. The core game play should be about the same as the previous game. That includes multiplayer trivia games with a wheel spinner. Most of the differences come in the UI, a few new game play mechanics, and more. The game features hundreds of thousands of questions and it’s available in more than 20 languages. We will tell you more when we get our hands on the game upon its release. S lack purchased the Astro email app this week and promptly shut it down. We don’t know for how much money. In any case, the entire tech space knows what this probably means. Slack is a productivity chat app for business. Astro is an email client with AI elements. There isn’t a huge leap in logic here. Astro will officially close down on October 10th. After that, we imagine that Sl

Sprint confirmed that its LTE network coverage sucks

Image
Sprint From relatively poor network coverage to a failed 4G initiative, Sprint experienced several significant missteps throughout the last 10 years. It is that former misstep that got BTIG analyst Walt Piecyk’s attention since he published a presentation slide on Twitter that stands as a microcosm for Sprint’s poor fortunes. According to the alleged slide, Sprint’s LTE network coverage pales in comparison to Verizon’s , AT&T’s , and T-Mobile’s . It even pales in comparison to the carrier’s general coverage map, which covers most of the U.S. Then again, Sprint put itself in this position when it went all-in on WiMax in 2008 as its first foray into 4G instead of the more ubiquitous LTE. Limited adoption and less-than-adequate real-world speeds led to Sprint’s decision to shut down its WiMax network in 2016. Sprint’s LTE coverage compared to others. Sprint’s usual coverage. Realizing it backed the wrong horse, Sprint got to work on its LTE network in 2011 and had it
