Google Chrome 76 automatically turns on a site’s dark theme

Image
Google Chrome version 76 is now out, with the highlight feature being websites adhering to your device’s theme. That means Chrome can now detect if a site has its own dark theme and automatically activate it if you set a dark theme on your device. According to  Android Police , the aforementioned feature only works on devices running Android Q . Another highlight feature is the inability for websites to detect whether you’ve enabled Incognito Mode. That means you can get around certain websites’ cookie-based paywalls, though websites can simply change their types of paywalls to push away non-paying eyeballs. Also read:  How to block websites on Chrome Rounding out the feature set are more powerful Progressive Web Apps (PWAs), links to sentences and phrases through the chrome://flags#enable-text-fragement-anchor flag, Adobe Flash Player being disabled by default on the desktop, blocking websites from opening more than one full-screen window at once, and more. Why does the United States not have a cabinet seat for technology?

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J Okay so hear me out. I was watching Designated Survivor the other week and they did something in the show that made me really think. They created a new cabinet position for Technology. Much like Housing and Urban development or The Director of Energy or Education. With technology playing such a crucial role in not only the government, but every day lives, you would think that someone would be there from the industry to help guide it in the right direction. Or at least guide the government away from stupid decisions. Just a thought honestly, so why doesn’t the government have such a position? Edit: Added clarity. The saddest movies on Netflix

Image
Image via IMDB . Whether it’s a cartoon classic , quirky indie film , or uproarious comedy , everyone loves a feel-good movie, but sometimes it’s just not what you want. Sometimes you want something glum, something dark, something sad. Netflix has a great selection of all kinds of movies, and plenty of it is perfect for when all you want is to sit in the dark and really stew in it. Here are some of the saddest movies on Netflix right now. Use a Roomba S9+ to clean the shop?

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J Crosspost from r/Roomba in a search for some answers I have an industrial shop (~2000 square feet) and would like to try out a Roomba S9+ as a cleaner. Any large metal chips or strings would be cleaned up, and I would hope the Roomba could be responsible for small chips of metal or plastic, dust, etc..... I can make sure any cords or hoses are out of its way. Also I can make sure any residues are cleaned up. The question - do you think it would be up to the challenge? I'm a student creating an article about the media control through data collection, and would like some advice.

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J Hello. I'm a computer engineering student and would like some leads (articles, sites, podcasts, or your own thoughts) about this interesting, yet not so much commented theme: the possible media mass control of common population, through the use of personal data collection and Deep Learning. The three main topics about this theme are: Media control (not necessarily the means of communication, but big companies, especially those who dominate the market). Personal data collecting: a hot topic considering it's influence in the electoral system, and the recent scandal about Cambridge Analytica. Deep Learning: a very interesting learning branch (personally) which makes me wonder: what if all the data collected under our noses, through the devices we use daily, was processed and fed to a Deep Learning program to generate ads, recommend shows or places, direct us to the way they want us to go...? I hope it doesn't sound too much like a conspir

The future of communication through texting

This includes payment information, such as your credit or debit card number and other card information; other account and authentication information; and billing, shipping and contact details.” This quote up here means Facebook collects credit card number, addresses, and contact information. “We also collect contact information.” “Such as an address book or call log or SMS log history” This quote confirms about the addresses but also says they will collect address books. That means if you have a friends address in your phone they will then get your friends address as well as yours. “Facebook collects, info about your device, websites you visit, purchases you make, the ads you see, and how you use their services — whether or not you have a Facebook account or are logged into Facebook.” They c

Why doesn't Google force manufacturers to implement certain standards/features?

In the RCS thread theres quite a discussion going on. To my understanding not even every manufacturer has implemented RCS completely on their phones yet. Couldn't Google just say: Implement RCS (or anything else they want to push) for your max 2 year old devices in 6 months, or you lose access to the Google Ecosystem. Surely no manufacturer would dare to oppose that?
