Google is farming ad revenue by not allowing you to install an ad-blocker on Chrome.
I'm not sure if it occured to anybody else. When using any Google app on the phone, the interface opens links using it's integrated Chrome browser. The browser that is installed as a system app.
This browser doesn't allow extensions and has a very 'bad' ad blocker, which of course, doesn't block any of Google's ads.
It makes sense Google would like to farm ad revenue and force users who prefer using an adblocker to see them.
On an unrooted device, it is impossible to change this setting, tweak chrome, or use a different browser to view links in various apps. G-mail, Google News, Maps, etc are all effected.
