Stop saying clear your cache and cookies!! 🤬
Ok so the reason for the title, too many times it seems people think this is the end all-be all solution to get your systems working. Come on!
I work for a big tech company. Been there 8 years. And it irks me that I have all this knowledge, yet there are people in positions who tout these heavyweight titles such as "Program Manager" and "Systems Analyst" who don't even know what they're talking about. I'll tell you what happened.
Situation was that yesterday everyone experienced an outage of one of our main customer databases and nobody had access to it. It is a Microsoft service based on the cloud Office 365 ecosystem. So the error we were getting was "User account is disabled. You do not have permission to access the service". Ok so obviously to me this says that my user account is disabled on the server or on the back end somewhere. So I report this to them and all I kept hearing was "have you cleared your cache and cookies?" "Did you try a different browser and clear your history??" "Did you dip your cookies in milk and clear them?" (kidding) HELLO!!! Read the error message! It says my user profile is disabled! There's no amount of clearing my browser history that's going to reenable my user account! Stop being condescending throwing these demands around and get on the phone and tell Microsoft what the real problem is and to focus on reenabling the accounts!! Id10ts I tell you.. 🤦🏻♂️
