Apple vs Android and CPU throttling

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Major android companies recently claimed they never throttle CPU of consumer devices. This is a discussion of that hypocrisy.

Not only have android phones throttled CPU usage in secret in the past, they did it to trick customers into believing their phones were faster than reality.

imore article discussing this And what follows is some high points and additional links and information.

Apple extending the end of life of a battery is evil, and android has never done such a thing!! At least that is what the major manufacturers want you to think.

Note, all of their announcements specifically say “we do not throttle CPU performance in relation to battery life.”

That is true, but they have throttled their CPU for other reasons.

galaxy s4 cheats on benchmark tests, giving users false expectations of performance

galaxy note also caught cheating

Geekbench found Sony doing the same.AnandTech added Asus, HTC, and LG. XDA-Developers just recently caught OnePlus as well with their OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 5. All of them were throttling everything but certain benchmark apps — or, rather, un-throttling or boosting only for certain benchmark apps.

This was all done with the intent to fool customers into thinking the phones would perform much better than than they can. Overclocking the CPU only when benchmark apps would appear, then slowing down when any other operation was performed. The Overclock speed was never achievable during normal use. Therefore the real Geekbench score being lower than what customers expected.

People who discuss apple have the shortest and most convenient memories, even if OnePlus was caught doing it this year!

Apple made an awful mistake in not fully disclosing their method of preventing shutdown. Their apology is a little bittersweet since it results in having to pay them for a battery anyway. But one thing is certain. Apple never did this to trick people.

Hopefully apple learns to communicate better in the future.

I believe this is an important part of the discussion, especially since many people were asking “why doesnt android throttle CPU?” Yes, this isnt because of the battery aging, but it is a much worse problem. If you want to know more about my theory of why android phones are not showing signs of being slow or resetting due to battery, can paste that into the comments.
