How many of you have usage and diagnostics enabled?
Many people are upset with changing trends in the smartphone market, particularly the removal of features including the headphone jack, IR blaster, and removable battery. One of the most common justifications for this is that the manufacturers have data showing that not enough people use them to warrant their inclusion.
Usage statistics and diagnostic data is one of the most significant sources of that information. The setting is enabled by default during the setup of the phone. I am curious how many people leave it enabled, and how many turn it off and therefore do not have their use cases represented in the data. It is likely an insignificant amount to make much of a difference, but I think it would be interesting to hear what others have to say.
I used to always disable it for privacy reasons, but have since decided that if Google is going to be collecting my data either way, I might as well let them see how I use my phone so that they can improve it.
