The real question: Is the Pixel 5 an upgrade from the Pixel 3XL?

The Pixel 5 is not an upgrade to the Pixel 4. Cool. Is it an upgrade to the Pixel 3XL? It's not as clear.

Objective Gains:

  • Double the RAM
  • Double the storage (if you have the base model)
  • 90hz
  • 5G
  • Reverse wireless charging
  • Battery life
  • Wide angle back camera
  • Holepunch instead of biggest notch of all time
  • "New" assistant (the faster one that debuted in the Pixel 4)

Objective Losses:

  • ~90 PPI of display density (~523 down to ~432)
  • Wide angle selfie camera
  • GPU performance (Adreno 630 down to Adreno 620)
  • Active Edge

Subjective/Sidegrades:

  • 0.3" smaller screen, but will be offset by lack of notch (maybe?)
  • Smaller in height (6.22" to 5.70") and width (3.02" to 2.77"). Same thickness.

Unknowns

  • CPU performance. Benchmarks of existing 765G devices show lower numbers than the 3XL, but not by a huge margin.
  • Pixel Visual Core. Will it matter?

Then you have to consider whether or not some of this stuff matters in the real world. What are everyone's thoughts?
