[Tasker, Android 10] Change dark theme with light sensor when screen is off
Now that Tasker is rolling out with the new dark mode action it's made very easy to automate dark mode (even on Android Auto, which previous methods killed). Now it takes a pretty simple profile in order to change it with the light sensor, with a bit of a catch, you need to add a "wait until" %SCREEN ~ Off task before switching on/off dark mode, in order for it not to interrupt you when you're using the phone.
You'll need to give Tasker Write Secure Settings permission, if you haven't already.
If you're familiar with Tasker, you probably already know how to do this from the info above, but I'm sharing my project, in any case. At download, it will run a task to turn on the light sensor when the screen is off, which is necessary for it to do it in the background, there is no discernible idle battery usage increase on my Pixel 3. You can also do it manually in Tasker Preferences -> Monitor. You may have to back out of Tasker and open it again for the project to show up and be active.
Click on the link on your phone, you'll need to have Tasker 5.8.5+ installed.
I have added a couple of profiles in order to turn this off when Android Auto is running, cause AA changes themes with the phone, so it can interfere.
