Call Screen for Moto & Nokia phones may be coming (see body)

I was looking through the Phone app's files (latest beta, Pixel 1) when I found these flags: <boolean name="__data_rollout__SpeakEasy.CallScreenEnglishUsForNokia__launched__" value="false" /> <boolean name="__data_rollout__SpeakEasy.CallScreenEnglishUsForMoto__launched__" value="false" /> What do you guys think? Side note: has anyone gotten Call Screen in Canada? I haven't got it yet, contacted Google Support and they said they'd follow up. Beyond eSIM: How iSIM could turn phones into the ultimate Internet ID

Image
Most modern smartphones still support the classic SIM card (well, the nano variant at least), but a gradually growing number of phones and other consumer gadgets are starting to support eSIM . We might not be too far away from yet another change in SIM tech, as devices could soon start using iSIM. Earlier this year, Arm unveiled its vision for the iSIM – an integrated SIM that fits into a device’s system-on-a-chip. In the future, along with a CPU, GPU, LTE or 5G modem, your next phone SoC could also include the SIM card built inside it too. While there might not appear to be a big difference compared to eSIM, iSIM could end up drastically changing the way we use a wide range of connected devices. eSIM vs iSIM eSIM and iSIM are rather similar in a number of respects. Both replace the transferable nano SIM cards with a hardware chip that’s permanently fixed inside a user’s phone, tablet, or other gadget. When you consider that nano SIM cards are around 12.3 x 8.8...

Seven years ago today, Samsung beat Nokia to become global #1 OEM

Image
Nokia had enjoyed 14 years as the number one global cell phone maker. The Finnish company’s phones were ubiquitous throughout the late 90s and 2000s, but the rise of the smartphone era would see it stumble. By the end of the first quarter of 2012 , Samsung had charged ahead of its rival in global smartphone shipments, and Nokia would continue to nosedive thereafter. Editor's Pick A history of Samsung’s Galaxy Note series Everyone, and we mean everyone, has some sort of established smartphone series. By this, we’re talking about the many distinguished smartphones series’ that have accumulated a potent lineage throughout the years. Names like Apple’s iPhone, … Nokia had made a few significant missteps towards the end of its reign: the company had been focusing on its own Symbian platform believing it would become a viable competitor to iOS and Android, before signing a deal with Microsoft to create products for another doomed mobile platform — Windows Phone. Gboard Dictation Typing syllables?

Sometimes, when my bad spelling and swipe texting team up to get the best of me, I cannot manage to get a word to appear thus I use the dictation mic to get that word. Well, this morning I did this and said "Aggravate" (yes, chuckle all you want that I couldn't remember if it was aggra- or aggre-) and gboard typed it out as I was saying it! Instead of waiting to type the whole word. So, to test it, I did it again but said indecision really slowly and it typed out each syllable as I moved their the word! Has anyone else seen this? I don't think it was happening a few days ago and i don't see that gboard has updated in the last two days, so this surprised me. Removed features since the Pie update, and the state of Samsung tech support.

I recently contacted Samsung because I noticed my Note 9 was missing a feature that's always been available. Tech support confirmed Pie rolled back the option to disable the proximity sensor during calls (dimming the screen when put up to your ear). Albeit not a very important feature, I can't understand what made them want to remove options after an update. It seems pretty counter productive to roll back options while trying to move forward. The email also included at the end, "Please note that email as a contact option on our website will be discontinued as of April 3rd , 2019." I'm not well versed in the tech support industry, but I can't understand why the would get rid of the tried and true, best option for tech support. This got me thinking, what other kinds of features were rolled back during pie? My Galaxy S7 almost burned down my house and Samsung say it's my fault.

Hey guys, Wanted to share case that had happend to me and see if I can get some advice on what to do. I am the owner of a Samsung Galaxy S7 phone. To make a long story short, one night I was charging my phone and when I woke up I smelled burnt plastic, the cord has become attached to the phone due to melting and when I forcefully detached it's from my phone I noticed the charging port was completely physically fried. The phone was on when I was charging but it had turned off and when I turned it back on there was a warning message saying the phone was shut down as a safety precaution due to over heating. I have sent the phone to the local HQ of samsung in my country, they examined the phone and detrmined that there was an "oily substance" in the phone that caused it to overheat and nearly catch fire - and that this oily substance - was put there by the user - and therefor it is my fault as this is a "user error". Samsung refuses to extend any information or...

Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to backup that data, ensuring that even if something does happen to your phone, you won’t lose all those embarrassing photos of your kids you were going to show at their 21st birthday. Whether it be through Google, a third-party app, or your computer, here’s how to properly backup phones to make sure you never find yourself in a situation where you end up with lost data. The best Android backup apps How to backup your SMS, MMS and call logs automatically With Google Backing up most of your data is actually pretty easy with Google, and it has gotten far easier over the past few years.
