With the current coronavirus outbreak, most movie theaters are closed, and likely will remain shuttered for some time. However, one well-known movie theater chain, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, is bringing some of its unique film programming online with the launch of what it’s calling Virtual Cinema.

Deadline reports Alamo Drafthouse will start its online film program on Tuesday, March 31 with “Terror Tuesday.” It normally offers unique and rare horror films from all over the world to its theater fans. For the first Virtual Tuesday, Alamo will present the 1982 Hong Kong horror classic Centipede Horror. The screening will go live on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Eastern , and will include Alamo Drafthouse’s pre-show content. You can get your virtual ticket from Vimeo for $7.75. This movie will be streamed using a newly restored 2K presentation, made from the only known 35mm print of the film. You can pre-order the one-week rental at the link below.

Alamo Drafthouse will continue offering its niche movie programming online each week, alternating between “Terror Tuesday” and “Weird Wednesday.” In fact, the next movie will be the Weird Wednesday presentation of Godmonster of Indian Flats. This new 4K restoration of the 1973 cult film will let film fans see an eight-foot tall sheep terrorize a town in the Wild West.

This is just the latest move by the movie industry to make money via streaming services thanks to the current coronavirus crisis. Movie studios have quickly made their films that were once running in theaters available for either rent or purchase via streaming stores and services.

If you are an Alamo Drafthouse movie attendee, will you be renting these virtual film presentations until its theaters open again?
