Using SMS 2FA on any website is a Trap, dont do it, use Authenticator apps instead

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J Using SMS as a 2FA( Two factor authentication ) for Facebook is a TRAP, dont use it if you dont want to loose your account. 2FA is indeed necessary, but SMS 2FA??? Thats a trap. Its a problem because their server gets overloaded( which is very frequently the case ) and SMS will be delayed for more than a day. Ofcourse for that long, you are locked out of you account and have no idea whats going on. Its a good excuse for them to not allow you to use your account if you were behaving different than they expected you to. There are many authentication apps available for Android, ios, or Symbian phones(Those old Nokia phones) if you just search the word "Authenticator" on the app store. Some apps from the top of my head are, Authy Google Authenticator Aegis They will work fine, if not better. In case of Aegis, the one I use, it exports a .json file(encrypted of course) that can be backed up and imported on other apps. Just make sure your phone clock is ...

Who is policing the web? Should I get a police report or...?

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J NOT A SINGLE WORD OF THIS IS A LIE OR AN EMBELLISHMENT... Lucky for me, I'm not a big internet surfer. I rarely click on links, and don't even accept mms text messages. My limited online lifestyle has made it easy for me to narrow it down to less than 10 possible sites that may contain the culprit(s). To say that I am having major tech issues right now, across the board is a major understatement. All of my phones, even the brand-new one, have all required factory resets on multiple occasions. That said, I've lost EVERYTHING. Again, and again. They all went out the same way: a blinking, repetitive boot screen. Certain sites won't load at the most inopportune times, and my touchscreen (PC and phone) will stop working, as if I have given up control of it. I am regularly changing my email passwords, because the login issues are non-stop. In fact, someone turned-off my two-step verification 3 days ago! Not to mention, someone logged into my Film Free...

Artificial Intelligence? Your thoughts

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J There have been alot of recent breakthroughs in machine learning and other components of AI and I am starting to see a few big IT businesses develop road maps to become fully (partially really) AI. I have been in the IT and technology career field for 22 years (network, pentesting, security and admin) and I can even see the government starting to heavily invest in AI. My worry is that if I do not embrace this chance and transition my career into that direction I will be cut from the movement when it happens. Fortunately I still remember linear algebra and prob statistics from 10+ years ago lol. What are your thoughts on IT and the future of AI? Have you already started the journey to AI? Any thoughts at all? Submitted October 01, 2019 at 12:31AM by DARKKINGKING https://ift.tt/2nfbIMW

The history of Android Easter eggs

Image
Google has a long tradition of hiding Easter eggs in its software offerings. It started in 2010 with Android Gingerbread and ever since we’ve been treated to at least one new Easter egg a year. In computer software and media, an Easter egg is an intentional inside joke, a hidden message or image, or a secret feature. Google has included everything from pictures to simple games, but each time they’ve captured our attention. Here’s how you can check out the current Android Easter egg for yourself. Open up Settings, head to System , and press About Phone . Once there, rapidly press the Android version until the Easter egg pops up. With some Android skins though, you might have a slightly different route to reach to the Android version . We’ve compiled a list of the Android Easter eggs over the years, and we’ll keep updating as Google adds new ones. Enjoy! Android 2.3 Gingerbread This, frighteningly enough, started the trend. The story goes that Android framework team hea...

YouTube TV finally makes its way to Amazon Fire TV devices (Updated)

Image
Update, September 30, 2019 (3:35 PM ET):  The YouTube TV app is now officially available on many Amazon Fire TV devices. We updated the article with all of the relevant information. In a press release posted this April, Amazon announced that two things were happening few of us would have expected: Google’s YouTube and YouTube TV apps were coming to Amazon Fire TV and Amazon’s Prime Video app was coming to Google’s Chromecast and Android TV devices. After months of waiting, Google’s cord-cutting service YouTube TV just landed on many of Amazon’s Fire TV devices like the Fire TV Stick 4K, the new Fire TV Cube, and many more. Support for Prime Video on Google devices arrived in July, but we are still waiting to see support for YouTube and YouTube Kids on Amazon Fire TV devices. For a long time, Google only allowed the YouTube apps on Android TV devices, Apple TV (post-second-gen), and a few others, with Chromecasts having casting abilities. Eventually, Google rolled out th...

Google Pixel 4’s Motion Sense gestures should actually work in 53 regions and with 23 media apps

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J Last year’s Pixel 3 might have earned the award for the “most leaked smartphone in history,” but the Pixel 4 is getting really close to dethroning its predecessor. A large number of the Pixel 4 leaks have been related to its software, thanks to the numerous leakers who shared the new apps online. The new Pixel 4 live wallpapers, Pixel Launcher, Google Recorder app, and Google Camera app have been made publicly available, but other APKs from the new Pixels have also leaked. Thanks to Nextrift, we got our hands on a pre-release APK for Motion Sense, Google’s name for the Soli radar gestures, and it reveals which countries and media apps are supported. With no wrong answers, what are your personal top 3 phones in terms of looks?

For me personally: Pixel 2 XL (Reverse) Panda - if someone asked me to picture a modern phone in my head, without thinking, the design would look a lot like it, it just looks like a phone and the symmetrical bezels, dual speakers and even camera position and size seem just right. Combine that with the gorgeous mix of colours and the contours of the frame and back, it was certainly a looker of a phone Meizu 16S - even with the war on bezels, this phone somehow manages to keep them there with almost impossibly good style. The phone looks like what I pictured the Galaxy S10 to have been before it was released, and the camera and ring for the flash just looks really cool and aesthetically pleasing in a minimal but functional way Xiaomi Mi 9T - yes, I am a bit biased because I'm currently typing on it, but it does look fantastic. I loved the look of the Mi Mix 3 I had previously, that glossy mirror finished ceramic looked incredible. But that same display that pushes bezels to...

Why is custom ROM scene split into creating so many variations of the same thing?

tl;dr: there's a lot of ROMs built on the same version of Android with the same set of features, why? Android has many flavors, as pretty much every producent having its own. Yet most of the scene is focused on creating AOSP builds. For my current Redmi Note 7 there is a dozen, with very little differences like few extra customization options, reordered settings for those and a different kernel. Bigger, more known ROMs are focused around certain ideas, like LineageOS oriented on Google-less, privacy oriented OS or Pixel Experience providing the OS as close to the one found on Google phones. But apart from those there is a long list of ROMs which barely have any extra features in a cost of often much lower stability and outdated sources. Furthermore, just a few of them is supported for more than a few weeks. I'm not trying to gatekeep people from inventing new builds, as I found myself enjoying similar tasks, but I feel like a bigger part of the community could focus on a defi...
