Whats up with Android Tablets? Is it just me, or does it still seem like a mixed bag (at best)

Hey Folks, What is the deal with current Android tablets? its always seemed that tablets in the android world have been a total mixed bag of crap, but I haven't really been following them for a while. Looking now, so many tablets are being sold with WAY outdated versions of android, and I know its unlikely that they ever get updated. If you had to recommend an android tablet to someone, which would you recommend? It seems for similar pricing, you can get an iPad, which as much as I'm not an apple fan, has always been seen as the best tablet available. Feature Idea - Adaptive Screen Timeout

So, I know you can do this with tasker, but I think it'd be cool if you could adjust the screen timeout time on a per-app basis (similar to messing with battery optimization and such). Maybe it could pay attention to your usage and then customize on a per-app basis. For example, if I'm on my home screen, I only really need it at 15 seconds, but for most apps I'll need 30 seconds. When on my Kindle/news apps, I'll need about 2 or so minutes. Submitted April 29, 2019 at 08:12PM by XiaomuKou http://bit.ly/2GWGdNF https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Looks like Android Apps will be able to use the background space of the new iPhone-like navigation bar!

I just played with the new iPhone-like navigation bar, just before I reverted it back, I downloaded the Google I/O app, it surprised me that the app actually makes use of the blank space of the navigation bar: http://imgur.com/ajm43lg It looks really cool, and I hope it will eventually make to final release of Android Q! UPDATE: the navigation bar area is also transparent on original navigation bar. But it looks even more weird. http://imgur.com/zSquLTa Submitted April 30, 2019 at 03:18AM by keypoet http://bit.ly/2DHXN73 https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

What is happening with the prices?!

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J Is it just me or has nobody realised how ridiculous phone prices are now?! A bit of a backstory onto why I'm writing this thread. STORY -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was looking up new phones that have recently released like the Samsung s10+, Pixel 3, Iphone etc and the prices on them when viewing just looked absolutely absurd when you compare the things you can buy for the money. I remember phones used to be no more than £400 for the highest end. Now they're pretty much touching the £1k mark. WHAT THE F***! My GF recently reminded me that I actually bought my Pixel 2 XL for £800, and I just couldn't believe that I could do such a thing, so I had to look back at the release date cost and in actual fact it was true! I spend a whole £800 on the day of release for this phone. ------------------------------------------...

A colleague shared a contact and it came with a photo of a woman in a bikini

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J I’m pretty new to Redditing and am on mobile so please excuse errors and basic bad form. And I’m not sure if this goes here. A business colleague, more of an acquaintance really, shared a contact for a potential candidate for a post I’m trying to fill. He obviously knows the person he’s recommending quite well as the contact came with her photo (in a bikini posing on some rocks with crashing waves in the background) attached. He didn’t actually deliberately send me the pic, it’s obviously the image that is assigned to her in his phone. I don’t think I have s question really, it’s more like a WTF?! This feels like a massive invasion of privacy and not entirely his fault, surely phones shouldn’t just send the whole kit ‘n caboodle when sharing contacts? Bootcamp at Columbia

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J So I’ve never posted on here, but I was wondering if anyone can help me consider this as an option. Idk if it has popped up on anyone else’s pages, but this bootcamp at Columbia was promoted on mine and I’m really looking to buff up my resume to get new job opportunities as I’m a recent grad from college, but I have no internships under my belt. Their curriculum seems to cover pretty much everything in data analytics to learn how to use all the latest software. My question is: Is this the best way to go about buffing my resume and learning how to use the latest software? Paying for a program like this? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advanced! Submitted April 29, 2019 at 03:18PM by ERB0502 http://bit.ly/2WeWDY2

Realme 3 Pro debuts in India, sells 170,000 units in 8 minutes

Image
The Realme brand has done some fantastic numbers ever since it launched in India roughly a year ago. That trend looks to continue with the Realme 3 Pro , which made its debut in India and quickly sold out. According to Realme CEO Madhav Sheth, the latest model sold out its first shipment of 170,000 units in just eight minutes. Sheth added that additional stock was incoming and due to go on sale on the first day too, which suggests the final sales figure will be higher. Thank You Guys! We have achieved a new record with Rm3pro. We are restocking, next sale at 4pm today. pic.twitter.com/fNK993oQjj — Madhav Sheth (@MadhavSheth1) April 29, 2019 This figure falls short of the standard Realme 3 , which purportedly sold 210,000 units on its first day. It still makes for an impressive number though, as the Realme 3 Pro is the more expensive smartphone. Sheth also had news for owners of older Realme devices, giving out specific launch dates for the Android Pie beta. The CEO notes tha...

I spent a week with a $17 KaiOS phone – here’s what I learnt

Image
Opinion post by Hadlee Simons KaiOS has quietly become a global powerhouse in the mobile industry, bridging the gap between feature phones and smartphones. The so-called smart feature platform is designed for phones with a physical keypad and more modest specs than even Android Go devices. It’s actually the second-most popular mobile phone platform in India, largely due to the success of the JioPhone range. KaiOS has also since made its way to the Nokia 8110 4G , prepaid feature phones in North America , and now Africa via Orange and MTN handsets. So how does a KaiOS phone hold up compared to an Android smartphone? I was given an MTN Smart S, which is a ~$17 KaiOS handset that’s just launched in Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, and several other African markets. I decided to use it as my primary communication device (i.e. WhatsApp ) for a week and some change. Here’s how it went. About the MTN Smart S Even for a KaiOS phone, the MTN Smart S core specs aren’t impr...
