Nokia 7.1 launched in India: Everything you need to know

Nokia 7.1 Review

After the global unveil in October, HMD Global has finally launched the Nokia 7.1 in India. The Android One-powered mid-range smartphone was initially targeted towards US and European markets but has now hit the Indian shores.

The Nokia 7.1 looks quite nice for an affordable smartphone and sports an all-glass design with an aluminum frame. Here’s everything you need to know about HMD Global’s latest offering.

The (sort of) successor to the Nokia 7

The Nokia 7 was launched last year, exclusively in China and was a modest mid-range smartphone. Of course, it also wasn’t powered by Google’s Android One.

The Nokia 7.1 makes a few changes this time around. It comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 636 chipset, and packs in 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There was also a 3GB + 32GB variant but that’s not coming to India.

The smartphone sports a 5.84-inch LCD screen with a 19:9 aspect ratio and Full HD+ resolution. HMD Global calls it the PureDisplay as it supports HDR10 as well as SDR to HDR upscaling.

The Nokia 7.1 sports highly sensitive ZEISS Optics 12MP + 5MP dual cameras with 1.28μm pixel size and an f/1.8 aperture. There’s also dual phase detection autofocus, a live bokeh mode, and a pro camera mode. The new camera UI helps you control white balance, ISO, focus, and shutter speed using the Pro Camera Mode.

The front camera comes in at 8MP, and of course, comes with the Dual-Sight Mode – the marketing suits at HMD Global prefer to call it “bothie” – that allows you to take photos and videos with the front and rear cameras at the same time.

Pure and up-to-date Android experience

Like HMD Global’s recent portfolio, the Nokia 7.1 too is an Android One smartphone. It will receive three years of monthly security patches as guaranteed in the Android One program.

Nokia is definitely one of the manufacturers that take software updates seriously. The smartphone has recently received the Android 9 Pie upgrade, so buyers in India would probably have an over the air update waiting for them when they’ll unbox the phone.

The Nokia 7.1 is also an Android Enterprise Recommended phone.

Pricing and Availability

The Nokia 7.1 comes in Gloss Midnight Blue and Gloss Steel color variants and will be available from December 7 at recommended best buy price of ₹19,999 ($287) at top mobile retailers across India and on nokia.com/phones.
