OnePlus 6T has already received its first update, a day after launch
- The OnePlus 6T has received its first update, a short while after its reveal.
- OxygenOS 9.0.4 tweaks the Nightscape mode and adds a studio lighting option.
- The update also improves Screen Unlock and brings the November 2018 security patch.
The OnePlus 6T was finally launched this week, delivering several improvements over the OnePlus 6. The Chinese brand isn’t wasting any time though, as it quickly pushed out a system update yesterday.
The Oxygen OS 9.0.4 update, spotted by HDBlog (h/t: XDA), weighs in at 137MB. It’s a pretty small update at first glance, but it brings quite a few tweaks nonetheless.

For one, the update improves the camera app’s Nightscape mode, while also adding a “studio lighting” option (presumably for portrait mode).
Other noteworthy tweaks include improved Screen Unlock (OnePlus’s term for in-display fingerprint scanning), better standby power consumption, and general bug fixes and improvements. The update also integrates the November 2018 security patch, giving users a little extra peace of mind.
The changelog also mentions “brand new navigation gestures” but, as XDA notes, it might be an error as the phone already has these new gestures.
The OnePlus 6T packs a Snapdragon 845 chipset, 6GB to 8GB of RAM, and 128GB or 256GB of storage. The phone stands out from the OnePlus 6 by offering a tiny notch, a larger, 3,700mAh battery, and an in-display fingerprint sensor. There is one downgrade, however, as the new phone lacks a headphone jack.
OnePlus’s new phone is also a landmark device for the company, as it’s partnered with T-Mobile in the U.S. to sell the phone. The two companies held a pop-up event in Times Square to mark the occasion — you can read C Scott Brown’s impressions of the event over here.
